Dr. Sandra Chavez, LMFT

Sandra began her college education at a Vocational School where she majored in medical sciences. She then studied at San Diego State University where she graduated with a Bachelors’ Degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences and Psychology. Her minor is in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Neuroscience. She briefly attended medical school in Southern California where she realized her passion was to understand the brain, its development, and the impact of environmental contaminations on human behavior. In 2005, Sandra received her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from National University in San Diego, CA. Shortly thereafter, she became an LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist). She is currently a doctoral candidate at California Southern University. She is a registered psychological associate (PSB#94026515) supervised by Dr. Jaseon Outlaw (PSY23676). Her goal is to become a licensed psychologist in the State of California. Dr. Chávez possesses over 25 years of combined experience in both the medical field as well as the Mental Health field. Although she no longer practices as a nurse, her education and experience have given her a deeper understanding and appreciation of the human body, specifically the brain.

Dr. Chávez focuses her practice on client-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and/clinical approaches that are tailored to match the specific individuals’ needs. Additionally, she has experience working from a holistic, and positive psychology approach that incorporates Mindfulness into her therapeutic modalities, should a client seek such therapeutic interventions. Her professional background and training have been in Crisis Intervention, Assessments and Evaluations, andForensics. Dr. Chávez is Bilingual in Spanish and can provide assessments and therapy sessions to those who prefer services in their native language. Dr. Chávez’s objective is for her clients to reach an effective solution to their varied challenges without dwelling on what brought them to therapy.
